Rameshwaram

History of Rameshwaram:-  After Lord Ram killed Ravan he got Brahmahatya Dosha. To get rid of the dosha as Suggested by "Rishi Agastya"  wanted to install a shiva linga. So lord Ram told   Hanuman to bring linga's from kailash.  Lord Hanuman went to bring the Shiva Linga and time was running out to install the linga at the right muhurat. Lord hanuman was delayed in bringing the linga's so sita mata made "Saikata lingam" and started the pooja . After lord hanuman came he was disappointed to see that already the shiva linga had been installed and the puja had already begun and felt that his work has gone waste . But lord ram announced that the first pooja should be done to the shiva linga brought by lord hanuman and then only to the shiva linga installed by Sita Mata.
